Time with Friends - Part 2 - A few sites...

The tour continues...today with a few random photos of things you might see around the island!

This is the 2nd bright red English telephone booth I have seen on the island. Don't you think it would be fun to use?? Susie, I especially thought this would go well in your red kitchen??

This is an old Moravian Church, there are 15+ Moravian Churches here in the island, the majority of which still hold services. This is one of the more picturesque buildings. The Moravian church is a protestant denomination which heritage begins as early as the 14th Century. According to Wikipedia "The Moravian missionaries were the first large scale Protestant missionary movement. The church sent hundreds of Christian missionaries to many parts of the world including the Caribbean, North and South America, the Arctic, Africa, and the Far East.

This is Betty's Hope Sugar Mill. Betty's hope was the first large sugar plantation on the island. About a 100 stone windmill towers like this are scattered across Antigua, and the restored example at Betty's Hope shows us how sugar production dominated the industry for hundreds of years. These mills were primarily built, run, and maintained by slaves.

Here is just one of the homes that I have wanted to take a picture of. I haven't taken any others because I feel like and intruder...a stranger. Many times we drive by, and people are just sitting on their front steps...just sitting...I want to capture that look in their eyes, but I'm embarrased. I'm not sure why...maybe it's because I know how much I take for granted...maybe it's because I know how wasteful we as a family, and as a country really are...maybe it's because really I think I'm a better person because I have more. No matter what the reason, I hope that seeing these people, these homes, and this lifestyle will change me, and change my family for the better!

Speaking of being intrusive. I tried to snap a picture of this woman walking down the hillside. She was prepared seconds before we drove by to cover her face - all I was able to get was her eyes peeking over her hat! The one shot that we didn't get was the farmer on his cell phone herding his cattle across the road with a machete!

To end on a tropical note...this is Jolly Beach - absolutely by far, one of my favorites. I don't think I need to even explain. But speaking of, I have to run - Justin will be off in a half an hour and we are headed to this exact spot to spend the afternoon and evening!! Wish you could join us!!
