A Little Bit of Home Made Fun...

The boys haven't played with play dough for months - actually I think they haven't even seen it since we came home from Antigua in March. Last week Justin's shipment of things finally arrived from the island and a few random toys were in the crate. We found our play dough supplies!! Yea!! So...yesterday we set out to make a nice big batch -



My food coloring was a little bit stale, so a couple of the colors aren't as vibrant as they usually are, but the kids didn't seem to mind. I ended up with about 5 large portions...Red, Orange, Blue, Aqua, and Brown!!




About 2 1/2 hours of fun ensued after the batch was complete...that's the longest my boys have sat down for anything - - ever!!






Even Eli took part in the fun...chewing on the toys! The dough itself is edible, however quite yucky if you ask me! (Can you believe how blond this almost one year old is??)

It's super easy and very inexpensive to make...

Home Made Play Dough

4 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 cups water
4 tablespoons oil
1/2 cup cream of tartar (a small McCormick spice container is 1/4 cup)

Mix all ingredients in a sauce pan. Cook and stir over low/medium heat until play dough is completely formed and no longer sticky. Stir constantly, you will need a large sturdy spoon to stir the mixture as it gets thicker and thicker. Allow to cool slightly before storing in an air tight container or zip lock bag.

Separate into desired portion sizes. Use Food coloring to tint to your favorite colors. After cooled slightly store in air tight containers. (I have stored mine for a few in the cupboard without any problems).

**It is very stinky :) Either add orange/peppermint extract or even better yet 1 -2 packages of clear unsweetened Kool Aid (I choose clear watermelon splash) for an excellent aroma!
