From Trash to Treasure...

From Trash to Treasure is the title of one of the boys' books about recycling! Let me share a little exerpt from this Sesame Street book..." 'Hey Ernie and Bert!' calls Oscar. 'Check out our trash treasures....we grouches were the first recyclers because we love trash, but we recycle the grouches way - we keep our trash and use it again! See? We turn trash into treasure. Heh-heh!'" (picture lots of grouches all playing with trash).

The boys LOVE this book, and each time I show them our recycling can, I bring up this book and let them know we are sending the trash away to be made into something else! We certainly want to do our part in cutting down waste...but boy am I glad that we don't have to recycle the grouches way: Keep it and use it again!

Each week I drive about 5 mile to the edge of town to this recycling "center". There is no curb side collection of recycling here. You can drop everything off in one huge trash bag, no sorting necessary (more about that later).

This is the recycling "center." A big truck trailer that sits in a fenced area Wednesday through Saturday! Get out, walk in and drop off your stuff! Where does it go then?? Off to a boys' detention center down the road - those lucky boys get to sort all of that "trash." That part in itself makes me smile - on one hand I am careful about what personal information I put in the recycling bin without shredding, and on the other I try to be good about keeping my recycle material clean, rinsed and dry so they don't have quite as much of a mess to deal with! I'm not sure those young men will ever care about turning trash to treasures in their lifetime!!

Do you recycle??

Oh, you are so good at everything you do...even recycling! I don't think I would want to take the time to drive it to the recycling center...I have a hard time recycling when the bin is out my back door...thats terrible I know!
